Shipping practice·Warehouse work·Line notes
After twenty years in forwarding, the valuable part is not the rate sheet — it is the reasoning behind it. This is where we record why each line was opened, how it was designed, and what we cannot do — including the things we got wrong and had to change.

Not mandatory for cross-border e-commerce — why we still recommend China food manufacturer registration
Under GACC Decree 280, food sold via cross-border e-commerce (9610 direct mail, 1210 bonded) does not yet need manufacturer registration — general trade does. We recommend registering anyway: one safety standard across all three routes, and no restart when you switch to general trade.
The RMB 800 line: why parcels over it get stopped, and why splitting them is not the answer
Personal parcels from Hong Kong into mainland China are capped at RMB 800 per shipment — not 2,000. Postal tax still applies below the cap, anything above it is returned or cleared as cargo, and splitting a consignment counts as evading customs control. How to choose between personal post, general trade and cross-border e-commerce.
The world's most expensive cardboard box: why 0.8kg gets billed as 1.5kg
A customer weighed 0.8kg at home and was billed 1.5kg. The difference was not the goods — it was a 0.3kg carton. Billable weight, volumetric weight, half-kilo rounding on Hong Kong to New Zealand express, and what it adds up to at 100–200 parcels a day.
Hong Kong 3PL for Amazon sellers: real Tsuen Wan warehouse prep, transit and FBA outbound
Made in the mainland, sold through a Hong Kong entity, shipped to Amazon in the US, Europe, Japan and Australia. What a Hong Kong warehouse genuinely does — FNSKU prep, buffer storage, consolidation, re-export declaration — and what it should never promise.
We have not joined a single freight forwarder association — but we do have 30 ports and 20-year relationships
Zero memberships. More than 30 ports and cities. Some agent relationships running twenty years. Why we never joined, what ten years of network actually buys, and why we are now opening the door to new partners.
Four threads, nothing padded
Warehouse & handling
How long handling really takes, how labour is counted, palletised versus loose, and how to avoid losing a day.
Line-opening notes
For each new lane: the market read at the time, how the service was designed, and what it cannot do.
Shipping practice
How to ship cheaper: chargeable weight, splitting versus consolidating, packing, declaration elements, why shipments get held.
Customs & compliance
China import declaration fields, New Zealand MPI biosecurity rules, UN38.3 for batteries, and what simply cannot ship.
Looking for what food can enter New Zealand?
Whether a food item can enter New Zealand, how MPI classifies it and which gifts get seized are covered post by post in the fghkholding.com New Zealand food guide, with links to official MPI sources. FG Blog here focuses on how to ship it cheaply and declare it properly — the two do not overlap.
